Many nights, especially during the summertime, he would drive home late from playing at a dance to get up to work at various CN Rail train stations, during his 45 year career as a station operator throughout eastern Nova Scotia. After playing his first dance in Troy at age 14, he entertained at many a wedding, and paid many a funeral tribute with his tunes. Many a hitchhiker was picked up and dropped off astonished to be given a complete description of their family tree. He had a keen mind for genealogy and could recite the names of people’s ancestors and relatives upon meeting them.

He loved people and gave his time and attention to everyone. He loved children and shared many a chocolate bar or ice cream, knowing they enjoyed them as much as he did. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen (Cyril) Beaton and his brother Jerome (Irene Kolenic) survived by siblings Jeanie (Bruz Brennan), Genevieve (Joe Whelan), Lorraine (Jackie MacDonnell), Alex (Minnie Beaton), and Betty Lou (Kinnon Beaton) Having grown up during the depression, he knew the value of a dollar, and was generous to his family and to his community.

Survived by his wife Marie (Beaton), children Mary Elizabeth (Trevor MacInnis) and Allan Gerard and grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Annie and Mary Catherine. Born in Timmons, Ontario before moving to his home in Judique at the age of 4, Hugh Allan “Buddy” MacMaster was the son of the late:John Duncan & Sarah Agnes (Allan Iain MacDonald) MacMaster.
